Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Dr. Imad Hijazin hosted the Chairman of the Private Hospitals Association, Dr. Fawzi Al-Hammouri, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in the presence of the Association’s Secretary General, Dr. Mohammad Al-Thneibat, and the Executive Director, Mr. Nasr Al-Majali.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Al-Hammouri congratulated Minister Hijazin on his new position, affirming the Association’s full readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of Tourism and the Jordan Tourism Board to further strengthen Jordan’s position as a leading destination for medical tourism. He emphasized that Jordan possesses all the necessary capabilities to be the first destination for medical tourism in the region. However, he stressed the need for a comprehensive study of the sector, addressing both internal and external challenges, and implementing a marketing program in cooperation with all relevant stakeholders. This includes focusing on traditional markets while also setting out a practical plan to open new ones. Dr. Al-Hammouri also highlighted the importance of highlighting the 2023 UNWTO announcement recognizing Jordan as a regional hub for medical and wellness tourism. He underscored that medical tourism is a vital component of the national economy, a source of foreign currency, and a major employer for thousands of Jordanians.
For his part, Minister Hijazin commended the Association’s efforts in advancing the medical tourism sector, emphasizing the importance of effective partnership between the public and private sectors in achieving common goals. He also announced the Ministry’s intention to coordinate with the Ministry of Health to unify efforts and to reactivate the “Salamtek” platform, which will contribute to promoting medical tourism and enhancing Jordan’s competitiveness at both the regional and international levels as a hub for medical and wellness tourism. Minister Hijazin affirmed his full support for the Private Hospitals Association’s efforts in serving this vital sector.
