Dr. Fawzi Al-Hammouri, the President of the Private Hospitals Association, met with Dr. Iman Shankiti, the World Health Organization (WHO) Representative in Jordan, on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the organization’s office in Amman, to explore prospects for joint cooperation between both sides.
Dr. Shankiti opened the meeting by warmly welcoming Dr. Al-Hammouri, expressing her appreciation for the major efforts made by the Association and the private hospitals sector in providing quality healthcare services across various specialties, strengthening public health, and supporting patients and injured individuals from the Gaza Strip.
In return, Dr. Al-Hammouri congratulated Dr. Shankiti on her new role, affirming the Association’s keenness to continue cooperating with the WHO and to maintain open communication channels with international organizations working in the health field. He also praised the organization's vital role in facilitating medical evacuations from Gaza to Jordan.
The discussion mentioned the possibility of expanding the admission of injured children from Gaza for treatment in Jordan. Dr. Shankiti clarified that the WHO offices in Gaza and Ramallah are the main parties responsible for coordinating with the Palestinian and Jordanian Ministries of Health and The National Center for Security and Crises Management in Jordan.
Dr. Al-Hammouri also pointed to the “Gaza Health Initiative,” which aims to rebuild the healthcare system in the Strip. The initiative has organized a number of conferences and launched a series of short-, mid-, and long-term projects in Gaza, in addition to dispatching regular medical teams and aid shipments.
He added that private hospitals in Jordan have so far received 112 injured or ill children from Gaza, along with 250 companions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Shankiti her pride in the humanitarian and national role played by Jordan’s private hospitals in supporting the people of Gaza.
