In Response to the Royal Directives… A Meeting at the Private Hospitals Association to Discuss Continued Treatment of Injured Children from Gaza

The Private Hospitals Association held a meeting with directors of private hospitals on Sunday, June 29th, 2025, at the Association’s headquarters. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Fawzi Al-Hammouri and attended by the Board Members of the association. It was organized in response to the generous royal initiative launched by His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein to provide treatment in Jordan for 2,000 injured children from Gaza.

Dr. Fawzi Al-Hammouri, President of the Association, welcomed the participants and reaffirmed the commitment of Jordan’s private health sector to support the people of Gaza, especially in light of the devastating collapse of the healthcare system there due to the direct targeting of medical institutions by the occupation forces, and the ongoing blockage of humanitarian and medical aid.

He expressed gratitude to the hospitals that have already received and treated more than 50 children from Gaza, offering not only medical care but also free accommodation for accompanying family members. He also acknowledged the children who were received at King Hussein Cancer Center and extended appreciation to the hospitals that confirmed their readiness to host another group of children expected to arrive within the coming couple of days.

Dr. Al-Hammouri explained that receiving nearly 2,000 children requires a high level of coordination, and noted that the Association has been in communication with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health from the beginning of the crisis, to organize the reception and ensure proper medical and surgical care is provided before the children return to Gaza.

The meeting was also attended by Dr. Emad Abu Al-Yaqin, Director of the Hospital Administration at the Ministry of Health and coordinator for the treatment of Gaza’s children. He outlined the main challenges that are complicating the transfer of patients from Gaza to Jordan, including the difficulty of obtaining permits for patients and their companions, as well as logistical issues related to the ongoing blockade and war conditions in the strip.

During the session, hospital directors shared a number of practical suggestions and observations aimed at improving the mechanisms of reception and treatment. An agreement was reached to distribute patients and injuries based on each hospital’s available specialties and capacity.

The discussion also touched on various medical and logistical challenges, as well as proposals for better coordination to guarantee integrated healthcare services for the wounded children.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Al-Hammouri extended his deep appreciation to all the member hospitals for their continued humanitarian spirit and willingness to help. He also praised the efforts of the Jordanian government in facilitating the arrival of these children and for its close collaboration with the Association in supporting this noble humanitarian mission.
