Bariatric surgery (also known as weight loss surgery) is a series of procedures designed to encourage rapid weight loss in patients that are obese. Depending on the procedure, weight loss is achieved by reducing the size of the stomach or by resecting and re-routing the small intestines to a small stomach pouch. The amount of excess weight lost ranges from 25%-80% of body weight (one year after surgery), and will depend upon the patient following the doctor’s indications.
Popular bariatric procedures include:
- Biliopancreatic Diversion
- Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass
- Sleeve Gastrectomy
- Adjustable Gastric Banding
Bariatric procedures usually last anywhere from one to three hours, if you are coming to Jordan for a weight loss procedure, you will likely need to spend between seven to ten days in Jordan. Details of your treatment will depend on your hospital’s particular protocols, but in general, you will start with your preoperative exams on the day after your arrival, after a day or two your surgery will be scheduled and then you will be under monitoring for five to seven days to ensure that you are in good shape to be discharged and travel home.
