Al- Hammouri Participates in the 1st Maternal and Child Health Conference

Dr. Fawzi Al- Hammouri, Chairman of the Private Hospitals Association )PHA) participated in the 1st Maternal and Child Health Conference, held in cooperation with the Royal Society for Health Awareness, under the patronage of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, at the Four Seasons Hotel from 15-17/2/2019. 

 

Minister of Health Dr. Ghazi Al-Zabin said that the ministry is working to provide primary health care including maternal and child health services, increase coverage and improve quality, and achieve several positive health indicators, in particular the elimination of many diseases such as polio and measles.

He added that the maternal, infant and child mortality rate has declined over the past years as well as the low overall fertility rate and the high proportion of women who have received antenatal care services from a trained medical staff.

 

For his part, Dr. Al- Hammouri, who chaired the scientific committee of the conference, said that Jordan has taken great steps to improve maternal health, the latest of which was the issuance of a monitoring system for maternal deaths during pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium. He added that a national committee was formed in the Ministry of Health to take the necessary step to avoid and reduce the incidence of maternal deaths, which is considered a qualitative transfer where Jordan is considered as one of the first countries of the region to be implementing the system.

 

He stressed the importance of the monitoring and response system so that we can work toward reducing the maternal mortality rate to the required rate according to the national strategy for the health sector in Jordan for the year 2020, which are 18 per 100,000 births. He pointed out that the Ministry of Health, through the National Program for the vaccination, has succeeded in reaching nearly 99% coverage for children under the age of five years, which is one of the highest rates in the world. He referred to the initiative of The Health Care Accreditation Council (HCAC) to issue standards for reliable child-friendly hospitals in 2018.
