Signing of a Jordanian-Libyan agreement to pay the debts of private hospitals

    

 

Dr. Fawzi Al- Hammouri, Chairman of the Private Hospitals association said that the Jordanian - Libyan ministerial committee formed according to the decision of Prime Minister Dr. Omar Al Razzaz and Chairman of the Presidential Council of Libya Mr. Fayez Al Sarraj finalized an agreement on closing the debt file of the private hospitals on the Libyan government.
 
The committee is comprised of the acting Minister of Health, Dr. Abd Al Nasser Abu Al Basal, the Libyan Minister of Health, Dr. Omar Bashir, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Hikmat Abu Al-Fool, the Undersecretary of the Libyan Ministry of Health, Dr. Mohammad Haitham, and Dr. Fawzi Al- Hammouri, Chairman of the Private Hospitals association.
 
Dr. Al- Hammouri said that the committee signed a memorandum of agreement specifying the mechanism for paying the financial claims of private hospitals, which, after the audit, amounted to $ 220 million, 50 per cent of the total amount is scheduled to be paid off over the next two weeks, 25 per cent in February 2019 and 25 per cent in April 2019.
 
He pointed out that it was agreed to activate cooperation between the two countries in the field of health, training Libyan medical staff at Jordanian hospitals, as well as implementing a visiting doctor program to share specialist knowledge between the two countries.
 
Dr. Al- Hammouri commended King Abdullah II and Prime Minister role in this respect, as they, during their meeting with Mr. Al Sarraj , underscored the necessity of addressing the due debt issue, adding that Jordan's private hospitals are facing difficult financial circumstances as a result of these unpaid dues. 
The Libyan Minister of Health expressed appreciation of the Libyan government for the great humanitarian role played by the Jordanian hospitals in receiving Libyan wounded and sick in exceptional circumstances and the Libyan government's commitment to pay the dues of these hospitals.
 
For his part, Acting Minister of health stressed Jordan's keenness to support the Libyan brothers in all fields, the health aspect in particular and the need to end the outstanding issues.
 
In turn, Undersecretary of the Libyan Ministry of Health and Chairman of the Libyan Committee responsible for paying the debts of Jordanian hospitals, stressed the keenness of the Committee to end this file as soon as possible, appreciating the role played by Jordanian hospitals in treating large numbers of wounded and sick Libyans.
