In collaboration with The National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA), the Private Hospitals Association (PHA) organized an awareness workshop for representatives from member private hospitals on Tuesday December 12, 2017.

“This workshop represents our mutual concern with the NCFA regarding family violence that may lead to serious physical and emotional injuries in many cases”, commented Dr. Fawzi AL-Hammouri, PHA Chairman in his opening remarks. He added: “we at PHA have included improving family health and creating awareness about family violence as part of our strategic plan, and we plan to launch a campaign against family violence in collaboration with member hospitals”.

Family violence is a new phenomenon to our society, its level has risen in recent years, which is the reason for organizing this workshop. Health workers in hospitals must be familiar with its symptoms as they are first responders to family violence cases that visit ER at hospitals, identifying family violence cases and reporting them will assist in reducing and possibly stopping this phenomenon.

On his behalf Secretary General of NCFA, Mr. Fadel AlHmoud, stressed the importance of these workshops to raise the awareness of health workers about family violence saying: “Our mission at the NCFA is to create the proper framework to protect families in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental entities to ensure a healthy family atmosphere that is violence free. The NCFA has established clear guide lines for all entities to work together to eliminate and stop this phenomenon, each person has specific roles and responsibilities that guide their response to violence.

The workshop was conducted by prominent speakers including Dr. Ahmad Bani Hani head of the Forensic medicine at MOH, Judge Ali Masimi from technical office at The Court of Cassation, Brigadier General Attala Al-Sarhan director of the Family Protection Directorate at the General Police Department, and Mr. Hakam Matalka head of the family affairs Unit at the NCFA and Dr. Osama Samawi technical director at the Institute of Family Health
